As the summer trip approaches, officials are issuing a security alarm for Americans who are using meeting applications in certain areas of Mexico, warning travelers to use second care of an increase in applications.
On Monday, the US Embassy and Consulates in Mexico shared a security alarm after confirming “some reports for US citizens being kidnapped by individuals that victims met in the meeting applications in recent months.”
“You have to be careful, buyer care. You have to assume that something bad can happen to you in the process,” Bobby McDonald, a retired supervisory service agent and a criminal justice lecturer at the University of New Haven, shared with Fox News Digit.
“If you decide to use it, be on extra high readiness. Be careful where you are meeting this person or persons. Make sure it is in a public area. Make sure it is an area where you will have a mobile phone service. Make sure you are careful and notify people where you are,” encourage McDonald.
McDonald added that these applications are the latest Russian criminals to use.
“Applications are another level of places where criminals will be able to act on their unfair activities. And you just have to be careful,” McDonald said.
“Again, there is no whole we can make about those applications or get rid of them from children’s phones or people’s phones. People simply need to understand where they are, what they are doing and read to respond to a bad situation and understand how to get them in front of her at the front,” he continued.
The alarm was issued for Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Nayari areas.
The embassy said that “victims and their family members in the United States have sometimes been extorted for large sums of money to secure their release.”
“Please hear that this kind of violence is not limited to a geographical area,” the embassy said.
The embassy added that travelers should use care when meeting foreigners, encouraging meetings in public places and avoiding isolated places, “such as residents or hotel rooms, where crimes are most likely to happen.”
McDonald said nothing about this alarm attacked it.
“This is just a kind of other repetition of what we have to worry about when traveling, whether with our families, with our students going to spring rest, all those types of things.
Embassy officials did not specifically name that meeting applications were involved in alarm.
McDonald recommended that anyone traveling abroad or even in a new country in the United States “do little research before traveling” and knows what the “surrounding area you are in” is.

While McDonald does not discuss to travel to the area abroad, he said he simply be aware of your surroundings and communicate with loved ones.

McDonald said what he has seen in his experience is the abductions that evolve into extortion.
