There is no regret in life, they say, only lessons. And homeownership comes with many lessons.
Not less than 45% of current home owners say they have at least a regret for buying their home, according to a new banking study. From the cost of repairing the runway to the unworthy of death payments, home ownership loads can make some unfortunate home buyers think twice about the biggest financial decision of their lives.
More than two -fifths of the repentant owners showed the maintenance and other costs hidden as the source of their regret, reporting that home ownership was expected more than expected.
“For most people, buying a home is the most expensive transaction of their lives,” said the high economic analyst of banking Mark Hamrick. “Once the purchase has been completed, we find that affordability issues are ranked high in the pity list. The very small buy of a home was the second most common regret, at 21%.
A 2024 study by Talker Research found that space complaints were born relatively quickly among Americans – nearly half reported that they felt bored in their home within a year of living there.
Very high mortgage payments (16%) and excessive home payments (15%) followed the highest complaints.
More than one -third of buyers who bought homes during the hot red market after the Fandemia reported that they had paid, according to a 2022 study with money and consultation in the morning, and there is evidence of whip in today’s market. The smallest surveyed mention, according to banking, included buying a home in a bad place, with 14%, and buying a very large, 11%home.
The regrets of home ownership changed from the generation, the banking survey revealed. Children’s homeowners were more likely to regret high maintenance costs – a possible consequence of the elderly who owns older homes. The younger generations of homeowners, such as Millennials, were more likely to regret to receive high mortgage payments and tariffs.
Despite the shade of regret, the survey has a large bright place – 55% of homeowners reported having zero regret for buying their current home, especially children’s boomers. Nearly 60% of homeowners between the ages of 61 and 79 said they had no second thoughts.
“While some homeowners have a regret for buying a kind, it is showing that the vast majority would do it again if they had the opportunity,” Hamrick said.
The response widely agreed that homeownership remains part of the American dream, and 70% said they would buy their current home again if they had an action.
“For those who can still buy a replacement home in the coming years, whether by buying larger or reduced, some of these would be learned lessons can prove helpful,” Hamrick said.
