One of the most popular office buildings in Times Square will soon accommodate 1,250 new apartments

Times Square fixing is the previous headquarters of the Ernst & Young-Whose Cherry-ed Signs firm had long been a presence in the world-famous plague.

Now, the 38-storey tower will give 1,250 new houses, marking a main moment in the post-fandemic reality of Times Square.

The board at Empire State Development unanimously approved the conversion of the building on Thursday, announced many stores.

Redefining plans include repurposing over 900,000 square meters of office space in 5 square times in 1,050 studio apartments and 200 one -room apartments, holding 37,000 square meters per minor.

“Confronting a housing crisis for decades requires the creation of new dwellings in every neighborhood in an accelerated peace and even here in the ‘intersection of the world’ in Times Square,” said Mayor Eric Adams in a state.

A quarter of the apartments will be set aside as permanently affordable, meaning that they will be available to New Yorkers earning up to 80% of the average area income. The measure allows developers to capture a heavy incentive for the housing office tax.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of this year, according to officials. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in 2027.

RXR holds the rent of the land in the tower, which is owned by the city. RXR will develop the site in partnership with Apollo Global Management and SL Green, Pincusco reported in December.

Scott Rechler, chairman and CEO of RXR, praised the latest news in a state.

“The city and state of New York have shown that, through public-private innovative partnerships, we can transform the unused office spaces into a flowering community of housing, helping to address the New York housing crisis,” Rechler said.

The lower 5 -time stories, located between the West 41 and 42 roads, are lined with glowing marks and attractive tables. Inside, however, the vacancy rate is close to 80%, according to city officials.

The tower was built in 2002 as the headquarters for Ernst & Young. The massive account and audit firm fired 5 times in 2022 for newer excavations on the west side, leaving the glass tower everything, but empty.

The conversion marks another major office conversion to the New York City settlement, following other mass projects in 25 Water St. – former -house of JPMORGAN Chase, Enquirer National and New York Daily News – and 55 Broad St., the former Wall Street Sachi Sachs.

Continuous projects include the conversion of the previous Pfizer headquarters into 1,600 apartments and stretch adjustment 395 Flatbush Ave. of Brooklyn in Brooklyn in the second highest borough residential tower.
