The first stage of a new massive artificial data center in the United Arab Emirates will come online in 2026, likely with 100,000 Nvidia chips.
The “UAE Stargate Emirates” project is part of a deal mediated last week by President Trump to build the world’s largest data group outside the United States, despite previous US restrictions on the introduction of advanced technology in the United Arab Emirates due to its closure in China.
The 10-square-km (26-km-km) page in Abu Dhabi will eventually host 5 data centers worth 5 gigawatts.
The first phase of this project will be the 1-Gigavat Stargate UAE project, built by the G42 state-supported firm in partnership with US firms Openi, Oracle, Nvidia and Cisco Systems, as well as Japan’s Softbank Group.
Companies on Thursday said the Stargate UAE project will use the Nvidia GB300 Grace GB300, currently the most advanced server of Nvidia.
The first 200 megawatt of capacity will go directly in 2026, companies said.
The group did not give a number of servers, but the Trendforce analyst firm estimates that GB300 servers with 72 chips each consume about 140 kilowatt of power, which is equal to about 1,400 servers or 100,000 Nvidia chips.
This first platform at work will enable any United Arab Emirates and trade institution to link their data with the most advanced models of it in the world, ”said Larry Ellison, Oracle’s leading official and leader in a statement.
The Trump administration earlier this month gave up a rule set by President Biden that would limit the flow of chips to places such as the United Arab Emirates.
The Department of Trade, which oversees export controls, did not say what will replace the rule, but said last week that a working group between the US and the United Arab Emirates will be gathered to ensure that the project meets “powerful US security standards and other efforts in the United Arab Emirates”.
