This discovery made big waves.
Researchers have been discovered a ship that saint over 140 years ago. Long lost wreckage footage is currently making online waves.
The historical steamer, called SS Nantes, had a sun in 1888 after colliding with a German boat, resulting in the death of most of the now oppressed leaders.
The carrier then stretched out for nearly a century and a half until 2024, when various explorer Dominic Robinson identified the ship with a dinner ship he found in the ruin site.
“Although the ruin was previously submerged, it was never identified and this small part of the broken plate allowed us to do exactly,” the former 50-year-old army officer who would divide for 35 years, Tod Jam Press.
Meanwhile, maritime history expert, Dr. Harry Bennett called the recovery “underwater archaeological equivalent of a needle in a bar,” BBC announced.
“I think the local Divulation team will wish for a great deal of detective work that reveals this maritime disaster,” said the professor, who teaches at the University of Plymouth.
Built in 1874, SS Nantes was a cargo ship operated by Cunard Steamship Company.
The 14-year-old ship was traveling from Liverpool, the United Kingdom to Le Havre, France, with a charcoal load when it was hit by the German sailing ship Theodor Ruger, who tore a “large hole on its side”, Bennett recognized CNN.
“For several hours, Crerew was tied to save their ship using all the ways of materials to try and fill the hole, including mattresses,” he recalled. “But eventually they lose it right and the ship goes down very quickly.”
Bennett said SS Nantes “moved for several hours, before finally coming out to the end, unfortunately, with many of her crews on board.”
Their escape attempts are reported to have been prevented by the fact that rescue boats were damaged in clashes. “There were some 23 bizarre fatalities,” Bennett BBC told. “There were three survivors.”
Meanwhile, the corpses from the ruins washed on the coast in Cornwall, where the locals faced the terrible appearance of bodies mediated with SS Nantes.
Unfortunately, after immersed at the bottom of the ocean, the ship was “essentially lost” as it was a period of time with “no satellite navigation”, by Dr. Bennett.
It was not until 2024 that the local diving team identified the sunk ship.
Johnson had seized the smell of unidentified ruins from the UK hydrographic office and decided to investigate himself.
At the end of a largely fruitless diving, the lead of the ruins without the broken plate, which provided a great deal of the ship’s identity.
“I decided to take it to the surface [and] We found it [it] Had the Cunard Steamship Crea had in it, “JonHson recalled”. It was then Bingo, we found it. “
Researchers also identified the sun ship from construction, on board technology and the dimensions of the ship – which measured about 240 meters long.
After examining the images and methodology of the crews, Dr. Bennett stated that “beyond any reasonable shade of a doubt, this is SS Nantes.”
While the sink of SS Nantes was a terrible tragedy, Robinson hopes the discovery will at least provide a little closure in the heart saga.
“One of the things I like to think about is by solving mysteries and telling those stories. I am in what those people are not forgotten,” he said.
