When you realize it’s time to leave the city life back and move to the outskirts.
Of course, when touches a home, the realtor will often label an area as safe or for child-free-but how do you know if you can really get their word for it?
Thankfully, people (sometimes) good at Reddit dedicated a whole thread to share tips and tricks to help you understand if a neighborhood you are looking at is worth spending.
Here are some of the useful tips they shared.
“When you see kids playing out without supervision and people who walk dogs at night without looking over their shoulders,” one person wrote.
“Women running in the evening and at night,” someone else shared.
“How the neighbors interact with each other. I move to a neighborhood where everyone knows each other, and I have never felt more comfortable,” one user said.
“Another day, a neighbor heard me playing the guitar and asked me if I want already. My Italian neighbor brings us extra pizza from her son’s pizza truck. Find,” they continued.
Another smart suggestion someone who shared the thread is the “wave test”: “… walking or driving on the road and shaking the neighbors outside and around.”

One comment read: “Folks out and around the night. They dudes making a little noise every night in the corner, drinking some beers and eating food in a small grill …
And a sudden but clear tip: “Sounds strange, but people park correctly. Parking on the right side of the road facing cars, not parked in the yards or block sidewalks/hydrants, etc.”
And if you are looking for a change of landscape, but you want to stay at NYC – it may be worth checking the upper part of West, which was listed as one of America’s most friendly neighborhoods.
Researchers from Home Store Hastha Kalalu studied data from the US Census, Zillow and Crime Statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
They compared the cost of living and the safety to come up with a result for each neighborhood.
