Sperm allergy is true – and is often poorly diagnosed. Here are the disturbing signs

For a small but suffering from women, an allergy to sperm is seriously interfering with intimacy.

A sperm allergy, also known as the hypersensitivity of the seminal plasma (SPH), is a rare response to the protein found in the male sperm fluid, â according to the Cleveland Clinic.

SPH is known as type 1 hypersetivity of type 1, characterized by a speed, exaggerated immune response to an allergen, placing sperm in the same category as peanuts and pets laminate.

For those affected, reactions to exposure to ejacula direct the range of burning, itching, redness and swelling of the vulva or vagina to the hives, shortness of breath, dizziness and even anaphylaxis.

A student of Colorado College with SPH reported that oral sex led to temporary facial inflammation and paralysis. She said the severity of the side effects depends on the amount of sperm she has encountered.

Experts believe that the situation, which can be life -threatening if there is anaphylaxis, is reported.

SPH was first documented in 1967, when a woman was hospitalized after a continuous allergic reaction “in sex.

For the next three decades, it was assumed that SPH touched less than 100 women all over the world.

However, a 1997 study led by Aloragen Jonathan Bernstein found that nearly 12% of reported postcatery symptoms could be classified as SPH.

In 2013, Michael Carroll, an associate professor in reproductive science, conducted a small, unpublished study that found a similar norm.

However, he claims that the real number can be much higher.

“Many cases pass without reporting, poorly diagnosed or dismissed as IST, yeast infections or general sensitivity,” Carroll wrote this week in the conversation.

“A 2024 study reinforced this finding, suggesting that SPH is common and most often diagnosed than previously believed.”

This condition is now believed to affect one in 40,000 people.

Experts claim that the main allergen is not the sperm cells itself, but the specific prostate antigen (PSA) in the seminal plasma.

Interesting, there seems to be cross reactivity.

Carroll notes that F 5, a protein found in dog dogs, is structural -like human PSA, which means that women allergic to dogs can have a higher likelihood of experiencing an allergic reaction to sperm.

It is also possible to expose to an allergen through ejaculas.

In 2022, only Starâ Lucy Banks shared her experience to suffer an allergic reaction to peanuts from her partner’s ejaculation.

It has since then spread a warning to others about the risks of transmitted sexual food allergies-especially by a peanut penis.

The diagnosis of SPH is, of course, has made your prickly skin.

While condoms mitigate the risk of allergen exposure to the PSI, for some unfortunate leafers, sperm allergies and condoms make intimacy particularly tiring.

SPH does not directly cause infertility, though conception can be challenging. Treatments for potential parents include antihistamine drugs before intercourse, anti-inflammatory after and/or desensitization therapy using diluted seminal plasma.

In cases where the allergic reaction is severe, some couples return to IVF using semen without seminal plasma to divert allergic trigger.

In rare cases, men can be allergic to sperm.

Known as post -orgasmic disease syndrome (POI), the condition is characterized by extreme fatigue, weakness, fever or sweating, mood changes or irritability, concentration of problems, a stuffed nose and itching after relationship.

These symptoms can occur within seconds, minutes or even hours after spilling – and they can last from two to seven days.

POI was first documented in 2002, and more than 50 cases have been registered worldwide. However, experts believe that, similar to SPH, the current incidence rate may be even higher.

It is believed to be an autoimmune response or allergic reaction, but also diagnosed your skin testing.
