With tightening wallets and a near -increasing recession, some singles are turning their first dates into free dinner fraud.
Countless tickers are proudly documenting their finxesse food, using hinges and bumbles like doordash – to mark food in someone else’s currency.
This is referred to as a “food call” – where someone does not make a free meal without any plans to ever call, with text or dates the poor soap that took the check.
South Carolina graphic designer Katheryne Slack told Marketwatch in a recent interview that she realized she was out of coffee a Sunday and used a hinged match to mark a caffeine adjustment.
Exterior and scheme beans, Slack hit her claim for a free o ‘joe cup.

Another user commented under Tiktok, “I did this for 2 weeks directly as I was not hungry.” Another added, “girl I feel”.
Some are joking that back -to -back data are their version of meal preparation. User @Alanarixonn filmed Hersf dancing last month with the title, “off on my 2nd date this week cos i CBA to Prep X.”
One viewer wrote under the video, “the fact that this is no joke.” Someone else replied, “Likes like a meal coupon because you are putting it into work. You deserve that queen.”
An additional supporter was withdrawn, “This is the low key genius” as another pointed out, “love doing this #thinksmasternothorar”.
Meeting the intention of making a free bite to eat is not new. A 2019 study published in the journal Society for Personality and Social Psychology Dove Deeper in “Foodie Calls”.

According to researchers, anyone who thinks it is good to dine and lead emotionally is more likely to show signs of narcissism, psychopathy and machinery – AKA “Dark Triad”.

Overall, while “dating for dinner” is not entirely new, it is hitting more now as tariffs bitten in wallets, the recession and job security grows weaker than ever.
