One of the some mansions left with a single family, designed by the legendary architect of the gilded Stanford White era has just found a new owner of a steep discount from its original list price.
The limestone house at 973 Fifth Ave., overlooking the central park, sold for $ 46 million after years of landing and market stops, according to city data submitted last week.
Construction of the Bea-Art-Art-Katra-Katra residence in the early 1900s and was restored with the attention of painting for the recently listed details for $ 49.9 million.
At its peak, it demanded up to $ 80 million when it first came to the market in 2021.
The buyer, operating under the limited liability company “Bliss to 5 LLC”, was officially locked in property on May 21. The new owner could not be immediately identified by the press.
The seller, an entity associated with former Goldman Sachs David Leuschen’s partner, bought the residence in 2012 for $ 42 million. In the years that after that, the owner invested heavily in a full -scale renovation aimed at preserving the architectural integrity of the home while integrating modern luxury.
“Everything was completely restored or settled in a whole new,” Andres Perea-Garzon of Corcoran, who co-only listed the property with Carrie Chiang and Lesley Schulhof, told the post earlier. “A Homage to Stanford White.”
The hexagon house is one of the only two cities remaining in Manhattan that remain true for the original model of a single white family.
White-white architectural loans include the arch of the square in Washington and the player club was one-third of the famous McKim firm, Mead & White. Most of his residential works have long been re -buried in institutional or commercial uses.
“973 Fifth Avenue is not just an address – it’s a state of eternal elegance and ambition,” Chiang said in one state.
“Cornero corner, every detail tells a story of unprecedented luxury, where history and modernity intersect. This creates a memorable experience for those who are lucky enough to call it at home.”
Indeed, residence combines the greatness of the old world with 21st century conveniences.
Among the characteristics of its period: nine fireplaces for wood burning, detailed carved woodworks, stained glass windows and flying ceilings.
The updates include five kitchens, a new elevator, a terrace on the roof overlooking the city, a steam -finished room in Venetian plaster, a silver safe and a climate -controlled wine basement.
Although many of the architectural gift have been preserved, some original details have evolved.
“Some of the interiors may have been Stanford White,” said the architect’s great -grandson, architect Samuel White, previously for The Post. “But I suspect the owners over the years have changed the interior.”
White heritage is not without controversy.
In 1906, the architect was fatally shot by millionaire Harry Kendall Thaw in a dramatic, high -profile murder, on the top of the original Madison Square garden, designed by White. The murder, motivated by Thaw’s jealousy about white relations with Showgirl Evelyn Nesbi, remains one of New York’s most sensational scandals.
The fifth sale may not have shredded records, but its historical importance and architectural ancestry is still a coveted gem in a crowded market.
As Perea-Garzon said, “This is extremely rare.”
