The captain of a large cruise chimney has died over a journey almost a month around Asia.
Michele Bartolomei was capturing Princess Cruises’ Princess of Diamond when he suddenly died on May 19 after a medical emergency.
The ship was on a 19 -day journey of the southern Explorer islands to countries including Japan and Korea when passengers and crew learned about the heartbroken news of a notice.
The ship was thrown into Keelung, Taiwan at the time.
According to Nine News, a letter, which was shared online, was also delivered to passenger cabins with sad update.
“It is with the deep sadness that we share the news of Captain Michele Bartolomei, who died on board Princess Diamond earlier of a sudden medical emergency,” she said.
“Our hearts are with the family of Captain Bartolomei during this very difficult time.”
She added that the Italian captain was a “respected leader with” decades of service at sea “.
According to Linkedin to Bartolomei, he was approaching 30 years with the navigation chimney.
“Captain with Princess Cruises, working for this great company since August 1995, just over 25 years,” reads his profile.
Captain Salvatore Macera took command of Princess Diamond’s ship as she continued her journey.
“Please make sure that our commitment to your safety and the smooth functioning of this journey remains our greatest advantage,” the princess continued on paper.
“Our very experienced and professional bridge team is fully capable and will take the remainder of our journey as planned.”
Passengers reported that they were awakened in the early hours with a notice asking the medical team to report to the medical center, Nine News reported.
Bartolomei lives in Canada and studied in maritime schools in Italy.
Many have taken on social media to express their condolences to the Bartolomei family.
“News of heart breaking. I am very sorry for his family and also of staff and Crarew members on that ship,” wrote one person in Tiktok.
“Thoughts for his family. I worked with his wife in princess again during the day. So very tragic for this family,” another added.
